History of Mountain Laurel Garden Club
The Mountain Laurel Garden Club was a dream for Kathie Smith in 1974. By 1988, Kathie had met enough people to form a club and with a small group of charter members and sponsorship from clubs in Frostburg and Cumberland, Maryland, the MLGC became officially federated with the FGCMD and affiliated with the NGC in 1989. With the leadership of sixteen presidents including Kathie, MLGC has expanded its boundaries and prospered in Garrett County. From a small group of women meeting in homes, the club has grown four-fold and includes both men and women from all walks of life who have one common objective – to share with others a common love of gardening while supporting good horticultural and conservation practices.
