The Floral Design Committee's Tussie-mussie demonstration was a favorite of the 2024 Garden Tour

The MLGC floral design committee are busy preparing for the upcoming Victorian Garden Tour. June 22, 2024, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. G Street, Mountain Lake Park.

February 2024
Local artist, Annie Simcoe, welcomed nine of us into her studio to learn about creating balance in an asymmetrical design. After some basic instructions we were set free to experiment, making our own wreaths out of pliable willow. There was an abundance of dried material to choose from with a variety of textures. All
the materials were harvested on the property that very morning. We are grateful to Annie for sharing her time and talent with our committee.

November 2023
Maryland First Lady, Dawn Moore, was gifted the Mt Laurel Garden Club wreath that hung in the rotunda during November and December at the state capitol. The wreath represented Garrett County. The first lady thought her children would really enjoy the wreath.

Beautiful arrangements made by the Floral Design committee to decorate the tables for our September 2023 meeting.

Garden Tour 2023
This year, the floral design demonstrations showcased our collective talents for creating spiral hand-tied bouquets — lovingly made from wild flowers sourced from our own gardens and from our host site garden at the beautiful Wildlings Flower Farm. The Riley’s have a pesticide-free, no-till, sustainable flower farm with the recent addition of two colonies of honey bees to add to the pollinator population on the farm.
In addition to our committee members who demonstrated the art of hand-tied spiral bouquets (Ellen Cowgill, Donna Swift, Maryn Fisher and Pat Williamson), garden tour guests were treated to the first demonstration by Lisa Riley (owner and passionate gardener of Wildlings Flower Farm).
Our creative designers also assembled over 25 jam jar posies as give-away to guests on the garden tour. Guests were also treated to yummy home-made cookies (compliments of baker extraordinaire Joan Harvey) and comfy seating in the gorgeous gazebo (compliments of Lisa and Will Riley at Wildlings Flower Farm. The gazebo and tent came in handy given the morning rain. By noon, the sun came out and our creative designers assembled and demonstrated 2 more beautiful bouquets and lots of posies for over 100 guests. Lots of practice and preparation went into our demonstrations for the garden tour floral design demonstration including help from Ellen Cowgill, Maryn Fisher, Pat Williamson, Donna Swift, Joan Harvey, Steff Knabb, Beth Malone, Jeannie Grubb, Betsy and Dick Potts, Maggi Coene, Eleanore Brown and Laura Ivkovich. Thanks to all who participated in such a successful event.

Woodland al Fresco Dining at 2022 Country Garden Tour
Floral design demonstrations, Woodland al Fresco Dining, at our June 25, 2022 Garden Tour was great success thanks to our three designers, Anna O’Kelly, FGCMD President and MLGC members, Lynn Vinke and Laura Ivkovich. With the help of committee members, designers assembled the three arrangements to the delight of over 100 guest. Our Floral Designs

The September 2020 club program celebrated The Centennial of the Ratification of the 19TH Amendment by creating a modern take on a Traditional Victorian Mass floral design. Floral Design committee member and NGC flower show judge, Lynn Vinke, demonstrated how to create this design. The gorgeous late Summer blooms were collected from several club members gardens.

Garden Tour 2021, Floral Design Committee Demonstration Arrangements
The Floral Design Committee has been offering special design demonstrations for the past several years at one of the gardens on the tour. This year they created floral designs for table settings, each one different and using flowers from their gardens, and the homeowner’s garden. These were scheduled four times throughout the day of the tour.
The Floral Design Committee also creates a special Holiday Wreath for the State House as the contribution from Garrett County.
