CONSERVATION & ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS The Conservation Committee has several ongoing projects and gardens that we maintain once or twice each year. This includes removal of overwintering dead plant material and basic cleanup in March or April. These include: Northern High Meadow, Sang Run State Park Rain Garden, Friendsville Elementary Rain Garden, and Hickory Meadow.  We participate in several activities: elementary school field trips to the Discovery Center making seed balls with children during the month of May; Fall Fest in September making seed balls; and Holiday Decorating in December at Sang Run State Park. We may be asked to assist with other school groups or projects. We try to meet as a group for relevant presentations and planning meetings four times per year.  Linda Harris, Chair

FLORAL DESIGN : Floral Design Provides education to members about floral design; organizes floral design workshops and special floral events; informs members on statewide floral events. Typically, our committee has a late summer, holiday and spring floral workshop. One workshop per year may be an NGC specific design. We gather flowers and make centerpieces for our July picnic. Our committee is responsible to make a centerpiece in March and October for NGC district and state meetings. In years past, we have decorated a Garrett County themed holiday wreath for the State House in Annapolis. In the months when we do not meet as a club, our committee likes to gather for lunch and discussion. (Jan/Feb) We like to have a planning meeting/picnic by the lake in August.  Eleanore Brown, Chair

GARDEN TOUR PLANNING This committee oversees the planning for the annual garden tour in June. Members help locate potential gardens, help with publicity, tickets, brochures, refreshments, and pre-tour reception. All members of the club are asked to help the day of the tr.    Betsy Potts, Chair

HERB  We have recently reestablished our Herb committee.  Hope to be sharing more information soon.

H4H-Habitat for Humanity As aligned with the NGC initiative, we are committed to working with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) homeowners to enhance the environment by landscaping HFH homes with hearty native trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers that attract butterflies and other pollinators.   Our H4H Committee partners with Garrett County Habitat for Humanity. We jointly build garden-related raffle items to raise funds for the gardens, decorate an HFH/MLGC parade float to create public awareness, design gardens, educate the homeowner on the importance of native plants, and help the H4H homeowners build native gardens for pollinators. Committee members of any capability are always welcome to participate in any manner that they can.    Greg Koeln, Chair

We coordinate the plant sale, one of our club’s fund raisers. We coordinate Grow and Show at our monthly meetings where members are encouraged to bring in specimens from their garden The committee usually meets several times a year to discuss ongoing projects such as the plant sale, and learn about plants, weeds, bugs, etc. Members are encouraged to participate by sharing their questions, photos, and ideas they may have for future committee projects.Barbara Sanders & Barbara Davis, Co-Chairs
