MLGC 21st Garden Tour

MLGC held its 21st Annual Country Gardens Tour featuring gardens throughout Garrett County on Saturday, June 25, 2022. This was an important community educational event, as well as our major fund-raiser. The tour featured four residential gardens; an invasive plant display, floral design demonstrations;  Habitat for Humanity community garden project display and Maryland Department of the Environment display featuring MD Water Wise program.

MLGC Country Gardens Tour 2021

Our 20th annual garden tour was held in Accident on Saturday, June 26.  Three gardens were featured.  Three Sisters Farm is a working farm that highlighted crops, flowers, and livestock.  Additional activities at this farm included a food truck/caterer who made small plates using meat and produce from the farm, a mini farm market selling the products that normally would have been at the Farmers’ Market, and representatives from the farm bureau.  Cove Pastures, another farm in the area, showed visitors row after row of flowers that the owner use for her floral business.  Also at this farm club members put on three demonstrations of floral design, which was a big hit to guests.  The third garden on the tour belongs to a club member and was packed full of gorgeous flowers, trees and shrubs.

Secret Country Garden Tour 2019

Our Garden Tours are  our major fund-raiser, as well as important community educational event. Four or five residential gardens are included representing both small and large properties, rural and urban, some along Deep Creek Lake.  In the recent past two state parks have been featured which provided education to the community about rain gardens, native plants, shoreline buffers, pollinators, and deer-proofing techniques. Virtually all regular members and a large number of associate members participate during the tour in various capacities.   The Horticulture Committee's perennial plant sale, with plants donated from our members’ gardens, has been an ongoing project for the tour for the past 15 years. Visitors know that our plants are super hardy having been grown here in our Zone 5 gardens.  Committee members also staff the sale, offer assistance to visitors looking for plants, and give guidance on planting and maintaining them.
